From call to final reading

How a repipe goes, step by step

The schedule depends on the house. You get the real one in writing with your plan.

  1. 01

Step 1: You call or text a photo

Andrea asks when the house was built, how many bathrooms it has and what the water does. A photo of the pipe in your basement helps.

  2. 02

    Step 2: The pressure check

Cristina or a crew lead puts a gauge on your hose bib, reads it with nothing running and again with a tap open, then walks the basement and the bathrooms.

  3. 03

    Step 3: The written plan

Which pipe comes out, which walls open and who patches them, the permit if the city wants one, and the price. Take your time. Nothing starts without your yes.

  4. 04

    Step 4: The day before

Andrea calls with the arrival time and the hours the water will be off. Fill jugs, clear the basement path, move a car if the crew needs the driveway.

  5. 05

    Step 5: The swap

The crew covers floors from the door to the work, shuts the water, runs the new lines and tests them before any wall is closed. You can stay home.

  6. 06

Step 6: Patch, final reading and walkthrough

Openings are closed with drywall. The gauge is read the same two ways, and both pairs of numbers go on your work order. The crew lead walks you through every tap.

Iowa weather

Winter jobs and summer jobs

  • In a cold snap

We still work, but we don't open an outside wall when it's well below freezing. New lines go on the warm side of the insulation.

  • Spring and summer

The usual time to book. Crews are often booked out for a while, and Andrea gives you the real wait on the phone.

  • Hard water

Des Moines water leaves scale in steel pipe. PEX doesn't collect it, but your water heater still does.
